MK

There is a community of enthusiasts out there that passionately designs custom builds of mechanical keyboards (MK). The shape, colors, layouts, legends, and tactical properties – in general aesthetics – are essential in getting a keyboard built to your personal requirements. The MK community generates new products – complete sets, custom keycap sets, boards, switches – very quickly, using the strategy of group buying (GB). Only a few buyers are needed to settle a small manufacturing production run,  with a fixed number of items. Rendered visualization takes a special role in such a GB because potential buyers get an impression of what they can expect of the product: in most cases, a product like new keycaps starts its life after the GB.

Coincidentally, I met some MK enthusiasts who organize such group buys for their own new products. And here I am, rendering some of the new fancy products for the upcoming GBs. A super fun job most of the time!

0xC.pad

A friend of mine, Sol Bekic, designed a hexagonal keyboard layout. The hex keycaps are naturally aligned on the correspondingly shaped board. In my opinion, a visual masterpiece with the intuitive operation (I definitely want to try one myself after the hopefully successful GB).

Below are the assets for the landing page (coming soonish).

Interest Check

We generated and posted the first visual materials of 0xC.pad around Christmas time. I created a series of images showing the assembly process of the pad. For the whole week, we posted one pic a day on Reddit, to stir up some interest in the MK community (interest check or IC).

MBK Legend

The low-profile keycaps are not yet very widespread. There are only a few keycaps that community members can choose from, and even the most popular of them, called MBK, are blank, without any printed legends. With the MBK Legend project, the blank keycaps are getting a fresher look. The designer of the legends created multiple color options that can be easily combined and different layouts, including Hiragana or Cherokee (one of the indigenous people of the Southeastern Woodlands of the United States).
